Embu County Government has consistently grown its own-source revenue over the past six years. Beginning with Kshs 168 million annual collections in 2013-14, its collection grew to kshs 401 million in the subsequent year. In 2015-16, its own-source revenue collection was kshs 397 million, which is a growth from the previous year. The growth pattern continued in 2016-17 with the county collecting Kshs 416 million and collecting kshs 416 million in 2017-18. In the last year of review 2018-19, its own-source revenue collection was kshs 629 million. Embu county government own-source revenue has rapidly risen in nominal terms over the last six years.
Embu County OSR rapid growth is leading it to its estimated revenue potential. In 2018-19, Embu was collecting 63 per cent of its estimated revenue potential of Kshs 987 million. Embu County government reforms are sustainable and leading the county towards its revenue potential.

Embu County government has gradually increased OSR financing of the county budget. In 2013-14 OSR financed 5 per cent of the county budget and this double to 10 per cent in 2014-15. The proportion decline in 2015-16 to 9 per cent and 8 per cent in 2016-17 and 2017-18. In 2018-19 the OSR financed 11 per cent of the county budget.
